Our unique science programs are designed to meet the needs of children in grades K-5. Carefully researched science lessons help engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts. The units are rigorously researched by science educators with the help of teachers and children. The results are lessons that students enjoy and genuinely learn from. Exciting program topics include Environmental Science, Rocketry, Chemistry, Paleontology, Forensics, Culinary Science, Oceanography, Biology, Medicine, Technology and many other disciplines of science!
After “adopting” their very own plush puppy, students will role-play the key responsibilities of a veterinarian, including how to properly perform a nose-to-tail exam. These future veterinarians will learn how to sew stitches, remove ticks, make healthy treats, and vaccinate their dog. Take Home Items: Plush Dog, White Lab Coat, Adoption Certificate, Journal, Recipe Card, Dog Bone Cookie Cutter, Dog Bowl, Gloves, Mask, Tape Measure, Graduation Invitation, Diploma, and Frisbee.
Through role-play and activities, students will learn the key responsibilities of a doctor and explore the heart, lungs, and digestion. Students will use real medical instruments (stethoscope, reflex hammer, and blood pressure cuff) and practice scrubbing, suturing, and tying knots like a real surgeon. Items students go home with: White Coat (Disposable), ID badge, Stethoscope, Physical Exam Form, Heart Worksheet, Human Body Sticker Set, Surgical Kit, Gloves, Mask, Bingo Card, Design your own office worksheet, and Diploma!
Students learn basic martial art techniques; blocks, punches, kicks and patterns for each belt rank. We emphasize that UMA is a martial art for self-defense and as a result of this training, the martial art student develops confidence in their ability to defend themselves, even as we stress resolving conflict in a mature way. Our class consists of basic techniques, and also games relating to martial arts which help with balance, co-ordination and are just fun! Students are given the opportunity to test for belts when the curriculum for their current rank is met. Setting and reaching goals helps students stay motivated and excited.
